Favorite WOD: Honestly, I don't really remember what we did last week and I don't really know any of the named WODS. I guess any WOD when I feel a really great sense of accomplishment at the end. Some are definitely more so than others.
Least Favorite WOD: Almost anything with burpees
Tell us about your sports and fitness background: Growing up I wasn't much into sports. I waterskied a little and downhill skied. A few years ago I started running to lose weight. Running isn't my favorite, it's so boring, but I did a bunch of 5ks and a few 10ks. When My weight plateaued I also started going to a gym and seeing a trainer. After cycling through a few "trainers" and changing gyms, I fell out of that rhythm after surgery last year. In the winter I cross country ski. My sister and I have done a number of cross country ski events. We've done a few Women's Winter Tours in Traverse City (lots of fun with wine and chocolate!) and last year we did the 12k VASA event. I will beat my time this year!
How did you first get exposed to Crossfit? Take us back to your first WOD … what was it, and how did it feel? I had heard about Crossfit but it took me a while to actually pull the trigger and go. I work with Lee Gilbert and I talked about it with him a few times and he talked so highly of CF269, I had to try it. I don't remember what we did my first day, but I'd never done anything like that before. It was a hard, but I was proud of myself that I finished and didn't quit.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness starting CF? (Before / After) My endurance is getting better and I know I'm getting stronger. WODs are challenging, but not nearly as bad when I started.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like Crossfit that were totally unexpected? I find that I have more confidence. The walk a little taller and a little bit more attitude type of confidence. As a fairly new supervisor at work I had difficulty with certain types of conversations, but I'm finding them not as difficult. Also, I don't know how to explain it, but I feel better and am happier. Not that I felt particularly bad or unhappy before, but I feel a definite change.
Please share with us any of your favorite Crossfit / CF269 moments. I don't really have any one particular moment but I really love how supportive everyone is. Even though I'm wiped out at the end of a WOD and I don't look like it, but I love the high fives and "good jobs" a the end of class. I've never experienced that at a gym before.
Any advice for people just getting started? Don't look at the WOD beforehand. You'll only psych yourself out and not go that day.
What are your hobbies, interests and / or talents outside of Crossfit? I love to cook. Last year's prime rib roast at Thanksgiving was a crowning achievement. I also love to try and golf with my husband. And I will go to a Lake Michigan beach, preferably in the Empire or Glen Arbor area, any chance I get.
