Heather Currie

I found CrossFit in August of 2013. As a former Division I collegiate soccer player (I graduated in 2009), I hadn’t found anything that really matched the intensity and team camaraderie of athletics. I still felt like an athlete. I still ate like one, and I still had the same mentality but I honestly had no idea of where to go for that competitive release. I continued to work out but it seemed like I had lost the ability to truly push myself. When I played soccer everything was strictly scheduled for me. I knew what was expected and I always had someone planning every facet of my life.

I have always been outgoing so I had tried many different outlets (p90x, yoga, running, biking, etc.) but nothing seemed to hold my interest for very long. With no one to hold me accountable it was rather easy to slip off the wagon and forget to work out for a few days or even weeks. Needless to say I wasn’t in the best of shape anymore and found myself in a rut. When I first started CrossFit, I was right in the midst of a job transfer back to Michigan (home) from Atlanta. I had seen the word ‘CrossFit’ flooding the internet and knew of a few friends who had started so I decided to give it a try.

I can’t exactly remember what my first workout consisted of but all I remember was the feeling after. I was absolutely drenched in sweat and completely exhausted. Being the competitive person I am, I was completely dissatisfied with my performance that day because I knew how out of shape I let myself get. When I walked out of the door that day, I knew I had found something special. Since then I have achieved things I thought unattainable for me. I’m not going to sit here and list every single thing I have improved on but what I do know is CrossFit has completely changed my life and the way I workout. I am so much stronger than I have ever been and I can tell my body composition is finally changing to the way I have always wanted it to.

In my spare time, I am a pretty active person. I enjoy soccer, beach volleyball, golfing, snowboarding, yoga, hanging out with friends, watching any athletic event, and playing with my puppy. I’ve always enjoyed coaching. I love watching people progress no matter what the skill. I believe one of the most rewarding experiences is helping someone attain their goals and I look forward to working with you!
